Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

being super

Looking at the last few days of summer vacation around here…some kids are already back in school.  Mine are on the countdown with only a week til we settle back into our routines and they tote all their supplies to school in their new backpacks. Usually this time of year I am ready to send them back, but feel a little sad that our summer days together are ending.  This year is no different.  As for the boys, despite saying that they are NOT ready to go back to school their actions say differently. They talk about seeing their friends and race to the mailbox each day to see if their ‘teacher letter’ is waiting inside.  We’ve had a fun summer, but I know we’ll have a fun fall too.

One of my favorite quotes is by Marc Brown, “Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.”  The other day as the boys were playing superheros with their 97 cent masks from Walmart and pillow case capes I couldn’t help but remember it.  I love days when they get all caught up in their imaginations and just play and play.

I have some sessions to share as well as a few other things over the next few days.  For now I am going to get something to cool to drink (it’s soooo hot here) and hang out with my boys.  ;)

some favorites

Whew!  It’s like a whirlwind most days around here.  I’ve started to think that my children do not know the meaning of the saying, “lazy days of summer”.  It’s fun though…lots of days at the pool, riding bikes, playing with friends and whatever other adventures we can think of.  It hasn’t left me with a lot of time to catch up on my favorite blogs, but as I was doing just that last night I thought it might be fun to share a few here.  Just click on the links below.  Enjoy!

Also wanted to post a favorite new picture, part of my ongoing project to get in more pictures with the boys.

Lastly, I came across this quote the other day on Simone Hanckel’s (another fave) blog. With my affinity for quotes I loved it instantly.

“When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice”

~Robert Frank

Definately something I’d like to aspire to.
