Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

our last day of summer break…in pictures

So I am in love with this new app that I got for my iPhone.  It’s called Shake it Photo and makes your camera phone take pics like a polaroid camera.  You even shake it to get the picture to develop.  The boys and I had so much fun documenting our last day of summer break together.  We didn’t really do anything special, just hung around at home doing a lot of the same things we do everyday.  However, taking the time to document those everyday, nothing special kinds of things was what made the day a little different.  We noticed what was going on around us, the things we see all the time.  And now we have those things saved in a picture to remember the day…the last day of summer.

I think we will be documenting our nothing special, everyday kind of stuff more often.

being super

Looking at the last few days of summer vacation around here…some kids are already back in school.  Mine are on the countdown with only a week til we settle back into our routines and they tote all their supplies to school in their new backpacks. Usually this time of year I am ready to send them back, but feel a little sad that our summer days together are ending.  This year is no different.  As for the boys, despite saying that they are NOT ready to go back to school their actions say differently. They talk about seeing their friends and race to the mailbox each day to see if their ‘teacher letter’ is waiting inside.  We’ve had a fun summer, but I know we’ll have a fun fall too.

One of my favorite quotes is by Marc Brown, “Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.”  The other day as the boys were playing superheros with their 97 cent masks from Walmart and pillow case capes I couldn’t help but remember it.  I love days when they get all caught up in their imaginations and just play and play.

I have some sessions to share as well as a few other things over the next few days.  For now I am going to get something to cool to drink (it’s soooo hot here) and hang out with my boys.  ;)

morning light

So this is how it went…

I was mowing and Henry was swinging.  He kept yelling at me to look at him because he was swinging all by himself.  So I looked.  There was my son swinging all by himself without anyone standing there to push him.  Great, right?!  But that wasn’t the only thing that was great…so was the light!  Creamy, dreamy morning light right there, just waiting to be taken advantage of.  After mowing a couple more rows, battling the voice in my head that was yelling at me to GET the camera and TAKE pictures of Henry swinging IN THE GREAT LIGHT.  I gave in.  So worth it.

Exactly 30 seconds after I took the last picture Henry was done.  Moment gone.  He was off to have a snack and I was back to mowing.  So glad I listened to that little photographer voice in my head.  ;)  She really knew what she was talking about.
