Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

Our Bounty

We have been enjoying the tomatoes from our garden.  Every morning the boys run outside to pick the newest crop.  When you have as many helpers as I do, you get some green ones too.

Speaking of summer enjoyment, another thing I’ve been doing is watching “Hopkins” on ABC.  I don’t just tune into the show for the stories, the music is great too.  Matthew Puckett is one of the artists they have featured.  He’s a favorite on my playlist these days.  Enjoy!

Lens Pro

For our vacation this year I rented a macro lens for my Nikon.  I have always loved macro shots, I used to have a 105/f2.8 with my Canon, but since switching I haven’t invested in it for my Nikon.  I used Lens Pro To Go to rent the lens for a week.  I have to say it was a great experience.  Their customer service was wonderful, they even called me personally to place the order after I had sent a request.  It is very affordable considering what it would be to buy a lens and then decide you don’t really like it.  Cost includes Fedex shipping.  I will definitely use them again, especially for the more novelty lenses.  Next on my list is the Fisheye.

Anyway here are a few of the shots I got using the macro.  It is an awesome lens, loved the VR (vibration reduction).

The aspens were some of my favorite shots.

Welcome!

Thanks for coming over and checking out my new blog!

One year ago this month I started this blog, what a difference a year can make. When it began I thought it might be a good way to share my images and let people know what I do. It has become so much more.  I have met some great people and learned so many new things along the way.  So thank you all for making it what is has become!

Okay, a little blog orientation:  See above for the link to my website where you can check out my galleries, rates, session details and how to contact me.  About section is just that–about me. Categories and archives are where you can check out previous posts and search more specific topics. That’s pretty much it!

And on to posting…Friday we headed down to Lincoln to the Sunken Gardens.  We went for the first time last year and loved it.  The gardens are just beautiful!  The boys loved the koi ponds and of course our picnic lunch!  Here are a few images from our morning.  It was very humid and overcast, making the colors seem so vibrant.

We walked past this spot as we were leaving (hot, thirsty boys in tow).  There was this little open spot right at the base of the flowers.  It looked like it was just made for someone to sit in–so of course we did!

Have a great day!

Moraine & Mosquitos

On one of our first nights of vacation we ventured out to take a little walk down in Moraine Park.  It isn’t an actual park, but a beautiful open area at the base of the mountains.  Tall grass, aspens, and a river run through it.  The light that night was amazing as it filtered in through the clouds and the mountains.  I don’t know how many times I said to Bret “I can’t believe this light!”  We were having such a good time finding rocks, running in the tall grass and taking in the amazing scenery that we didn’t realize we were being eaten alive by mosquitos!  All things said it was a wonderful, relaxing evening (itchiness included).

These are some of my favorites from our time there.  Henry was running and twirling circles in the grass, being every bit a kid enjoying his vacation.
