Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

thoughts & music for today…

Fell off the blogging wagon a little this week.  Getting my oldest started back to school, soccer practices and all that life with 3 boys entails has kept us busy.  So to get back into a posting groove I thought I would share the quote from my Starbucks cup this morning.  I just really liked it…

Also, a new music find I am enjoying this week is Jason Reeves.  I came across him while browsing Washington photographer Shannon Sewell’s site.  I like them all, but I think my favorite so far is “You in a Song”.

Enjoy!

Friday

Well, it has been a long week and around here, we are so glad it is Friday!  Since school starts back up next week we are trying to do the last few things on our summer to-do list.  This morning we headed out to the Sounding Stones in Elmwood Park.  A couple of clients had suggested them as a good location so we went to check them out.  If you haven’t seen them, they are a series of concrete circular sculptures with different words on them.  I think it would be a fun location for a family session, piling everyone into one of the circles.  The boys had fun playing around…here are a few pictures from our morning.

This is probably my favorite one of the morning…can’t you just hear the giggling?

Then walking back to the car we came across a little patch of strawberries…

and since our Colorado vacation they look for walking sticks whereever we go. Henry was lucky enough to find one…

Have a great weekend!

Here I go again…

In May I ran my first half-marathon in Lincoln.  I loved everything about it—training, feeling my body getting stronger, the race and feeling of accomplishment crossing the finish line. Well, I decided to do it all again and started up my training today.  This time the race is in Des Moines at the end of October.  It has a great reputation and I am hoping to improve my time from Lincoln.

The race I really want to talk about is Race for the Cure.  If you have been touched by cancer at all in your life (and really who among us hasn’t been) I would encourage you to go. It is an amazing way to honor the people and families that fight such brave battles against Breast cancer.  I run this every year to honor those I worked with as an oncology nurse and it never disappoints.  Inspiration and strength is everywhere you look.  You will see families, teams of medical professionals and best of all a sea of pink worn by all the Breast cancer survivors.  The race is a 5K, but you don’t have to run it—walk, hop, bring a stroller whatever you can do.  I promise it’s worth it!

Little ones

I spent some time recently with these little ones. They are all very close in age, tough for mom, but she is doing a great job!

Don’t you love these curls?  She was so funny telling me all her knock-knock jokes — she even cracked herself up!

Little brother, he has the most beautiful blue eyes!

The latest edition to the family…baby sister!

This session was done in and around their home.  Just one more option to consider for a session location. It works great with little ones and makes the portraits so personal.

Have a great weekend!
