Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

4th and thankful

I’ve been tagged by Andrea Hydeen.  She is a wonderful, creative mom that has started her own blog to share all the happenings at their house and in her great Creative Memories business.  Go check her out here.  If you need a Creative Memories consultant she is awesome — they even have framing!

Onto the tag…

1. go to the 4th folder in your pictures folder
2. post the 4 picture in that folder
3. Explain your picture
4. Tag 4 friends to do the same!

Luckily it was a good one.  It is me and my boys on my birthday.  I wanted a picture of them with me, in front of the camera instead of behind it.  I need to do a better job of that, being with them, handing over the camera.  Maybe a good New Year’s resolution…we’ll see.

I’m tagging Jen, Amber, Jenni and Alyson.

Also want to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I know I’ve said on here before how it is my favorite holiday.  This year I am feeling especially thankful and blessed for my family, good friends and the wonderful turns my little business has taken me on this year!  Thanks to all of you that have sent your kind emails, made referrals and supported me.  I appreciate it more than you know!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

window shopping

I had a session with these twins recently.  We were inside as the weather outside was way too cold for pictures!

This one jumped out at me as I was going through all the images from our session.  I thought she looked so angelic with the Christmas lights twinkling in the background and her sweet reflection.

Have a good weekend!

worth the wait

Due to weather we had to reschedule this session a couple different times, but I have to say it was worth the wait.  Although it was cold we had a great November afternoon for this session.  This young man is creative, unique and looking forward to going to art school next year.  We included some of his work in our session since it is such a large part of his life.

Until next time…

thankful

Continuing with this week’s theme of being thankful and giving I thought I would share the story of a very special gift that I recently received.  My dad and I have always shared a love for photography.  Often our conversations will revolve around seeing great light, framing up a shot in our mind’s eye or what we have captured lately.  So when dad called and told me he was bringing his camera out with him to visit it seemed natural.  What I didn’t know was that he had planned to leave it with me.  He said he knew I would enjoy it and that he was having so much fun with his little digital camera he wasn’t using it as much.   I couldn’t believe it!  I have used it before shooting b&w film and loved it.  What a gift — I could hardly believe it was going to be mine!

This camera has a wonderful history.  It is probably about as old as I am (you should see the manual illustrations—way 70s!) and has been present at many of the special events and vacations in my life.  Just holding it in my hands I can feel my dad’s presence and the gifts he has given me, not just in photography, but in life as well.  I cherish this camera and all that it has captured.

Two more gift certificates ($75 value) up for grabs today!  Email me at alison@alisonbickel.com  and I”ll let you know if you are one of the lucky 2!

Congratulations Amber and Katie!  Your gift certificates are on their way!

Have a great Thursday!
