Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

she’s getting bigger

Realized that I hadn’t posted a picture of Anna for awhile.  She is now almost 8 months old and 70lbs.  With all the cold she has been inside more than usual.  The other day while the boys were napping we had a little photo session in the basement.  With all the new smells she wasn’t too into sitting for me, it’s the hunting dog in her, that nose is always on!

My new favorite of my puppy girl

Probably won’t be posting much for the next few days.  We are in full gear around here getting ready for Christmas.  Enjoy the time with your families and friends and take time to remember all the blessings in your life!

cold monday

When I heard them say on the news this morning only 10 days til Christmas I couldn’t believe it!  The days have been flying by and I didn’t even realize how close we are getting to the big day.  Our shopping is done, but now I need to dive into wrapping, something that always seems to be left til the last minute.

For today we are staying inside and making Christmas goodies.  With the cold and blowing wind outside it seemed like a good day to heat up the house with the oven and the wonderful smell of cookies and other favorite holiday treats.

Since my cards are out and everyone has probably gotten them I thought I would go ahead share the picture we used for this year — it’s one of my all time favorites.  I have a big 20×24 of it hanging in my entry.

Sessions are done for the year and I’m now booking for 2009.  If you are a 2008 client interested in prints as last minute gift ideas send me an email at alison@alisonbickel.com and I’ll reactivate your gallery and waiving the usual fee.  This is the very last few days I can do this as turnaround times are slowing down and my holiday commitments are picking up.  :)

Happy Monday — stay warm!!

my favorites 3

Okay, my next post of favorite things is for the photographer in your life.  It’s a site for fun and colorful camera straps called My Funky Camera.  I have 2 of these straps and love them!  She’s recently made some upgrades adding a soft fabric on the neck side of the strap as well as some great new colors!

Feels funny to post without adding a picture, so here is a recent favorite of my littlest.  Yeah, I know it’s a little blurry, but his expression is beautiful.  He makes me laugh everyday with the funny things he does and the way he embraces each day.

until next time…alison

my favorites 2

Today I wanted to share my favorite website/blog.  Oddly enough it isn’t really even a photography site.  :) It’s called [i]LoveLife and the artist is Kal Barteski.  She is an early morning (and oh so faithful) blogger.  I usually get my daily dose of her while having breakfast.  Not only is she an amazing artist, but she makes even the most mundane tasks, like running errands, an opportunity to take in the world around her. So inspirational! She recently made some magnets and prints of her paintings available as well as her book Love Life.  I am eagerly anticipating my own book to arrive this month.

So check her site out, add it to your favorites.  Her inspirational work would make a wonderful holiday gift.

Have a great weekend!
