Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

introducing…

I have been kicking this idea around for awhile now…asking friends, sending out emails, taking endless notes…then shelving it for awhile.  Until now.  Introducing ‘the basics’, a photography workshop for the everyday person.  It covers the very basics of photography–aperture, shutter speed, ISO, natural lighting and more. The very fundamentals you should know to make your pictures the best they can be, no matter what camera you use.

And because I believe everyone learns differently I am offering 3 ways to make this experience the best for you.

  • Individual session- Just you, me and our cameras.  We will meet up to cover ‘the basics’ over coffee or tea, then venture out to put your new found knowledge to work.
  • Email – I know we are all busy, and sure there is a ton of information on the internet, but if you could get all that from someone you knew, give it a try and then come back with more questions, wouldn’t that make it a little easier?
  • Group session- Like the group dynamic?  Enjoy learning with others?  Then this is the choice for you.  Invite up to 10 of your friends to meet in your home for a group learning experience.  We will cover all the basics then venture out with our cameras.  I can’t promise you won’t get your picture taken!  ;)

may the force be with you…

Star Wars has landed in our galaxy in a big way.  The boys and their friends have begun an almost daily ritual of spreading out their ‘star wars guys’ on the front porch, filling hours with their adventures.  I love it!  It reminds me of the days when I was growing up, my friends and I would spread our Barbies out on the front porch, playing for hours on hot summer days.  Summer is definitely in the air and with these warm days you can feel it just around the corner.

A busy weekend lies ahead for us with lots of soccer and some birthday celebrating, which I anticipate to include more Star Wars and some pizza.  Hope you enjoy your weekend too!

*On a business note I am now booking for May and June.  Please contact me if you are interested in a session.
