Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

rain drops & bruises

This was a long awaited session.  Between the weather and a couple bruises we ended up rescheduling 3 times before the clouds parted (and bruises healed  :)  ) giving us a beautiful, sunny afternoon for pictures.  I always enjoy seeing and photographing these kiddos!

Hard to believe it has already been a year since I first met this little guy, here he was at our first session…

And here he is now…

Of course I can’t leave out big sister!  Not having girls of my own I am always fascinated by the little girls I get to photograph.  I loved her curls and her cute summery dress!

Have a great weekend!

summer reading

I love a good story.  Getting lost in the characters and places in my mind, escaping for just a little while into a world created by the words on a page.  A friend and I were recently talking about our latest reads and I mentioned I was needing a good list of books to work on for the summer.  She emailed me a list and I thought I would share it here for any of my fellow book lovers.  Some I’ve read before and are on my list of favorites, others I can’t wait to get my hands on.  Enjoy!

The Glass Castle

The Other Boleyn Girl

The Samurai Garden

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

My Sister’s Keeper

A Thousand Splendid Suns

The Boleyn Inheritance

1000 White Women
The 19th Wife

Left to Tell

The Two Women of Galilee

Molokei

The Color of Water

The Kitchen Boy

Trudy’s Promise

A Year of Wonders

Joephine Bonaparte Trilogy (group read first one,The Many Lives and Secret  Sorrows of Josephine Bonaparte)

Mudbound

The American Wife

**If you have any to share speak up and post it in the comments section!  :)

And a post just seems naked without a picture, so here is a recent one.  The boys all got summer (short!) haircuts.  They all look so different…ornery I think might be the word.  :)  Everytime I take a picture of Sam these days I am reminded of how grown up he is looking and how kindergarten is just a few short months away…

grandma’s quilt

This was a quilt of my grandma’s.  It is a favorite around here.  We use it for everything from snuggling on the sofa to laying in the grass reading books in the summertime.  Henry and I were having a quiet time in the backyard yesterday, enjoying the warmth of the morning sunshine.

I know people will ask…this was not posed.  I wrapped him up to come inside and he was walking behind me.  I turned around because he had stopped and this is what he was doing.  I could hardly move fast enough to take the picture.  :)

**On a business note June is filling quickly so if you are interested in booking a session for June or July please contact me.

Enjoy your Wednesday–2 more days til schools out!

going mach 10 and taking it all in

I apologize for the lack of posts lately…life has been busy and I have felt a strong need to be in the moments, taking them all in.  It has been the wildest spring to date in our house, but I have to say it has also been the most fun.  I have taken a few steps outside of my comfort zone and can feel myself growing in the process.  Scary, but necessary.  Needless to say all this has meant less time in front of the computer and I have to say that too has been refreshing.  I have posts lined up for the next few days and plenty of pictures to share.

See you soon!
