Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

expectant

This beautiful lady is about to become a mommy for the first time in just a few short weeks.  We headed out on a VERY hot evening to get some pictures before baby’s arrival.  I was excited about the idea of being out in the corn fields.  For her it has extra special meaning, having grown up on a farm.  I love it when an idea comes together–the fields, the colors and some great evening light!

photographer & friend

As a photographer I can say that I don’t have many pictures of myself with my family or my children.  I have been trying to do a better job with this over the past year (self time, remote), but it isn’t easy.  So when my friend Alyson, also a photographer, said she wanted a few pictures of her little family I jumped at the chance.

ps–Alyson, we got more than 3.  :)

rain

It has been raining here…alot.  Not exactly what I had in mind for the first 2 weeks of summer vacation. Sometimes you just have to make the most of what you’ve been given.  So today we ventured out into the rain for some fun.  Beware, this is a long post.  :)  Rain pictures are always my favorite.

having a voice

The thoughts below are not my own.  I found them on Erin Vey’s facebook page and wanted to share them here.  She always has wonderfully insightful things to say like this on her blog and along with her beautiful dog pictures, I find myself visiting daily.

To have a voice through your camera, I believe you need to have a voice as your own person first.
So the larger question becomes, what do you have to say as a person?

If you don’t have anything to say as a person, how can you say anything through your camera?

This is not a new picture but after reading the passage above I got to thinking about my own photography voice and what it is I say with my camera.  The image below came to mind.  I love pictures that capture the moments, the smiles, the eyes.  Not posed, not perfect, because really that isn’t how kids are and it isn’t how life is either.  I love being right there, in the moment, catching it and making art to put on the walls that remind me of those that I love and how blessed I am that they are in my life.

have a great Wednesday!
