Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

random things…photographs, wall galleries and some very cute kids

I always love to ask what plans people have for the pictures from their sessions.   A lot of families have picture galleries somewhere in their homes or plans for starting one.  I often get asked what I have in my house. I have to be honest…given the opportunity I would probably wallpaper my house with pictures.  I love the feeling of home and comfort that photographs bring. I even have pictures from my childhood up in special places of my home.  They were taken by my dad (he is the photographer in our family).  I love seeing how he saw me with his lens, much in the same way I hope someday my children will have an appreciation for the pictures I have taken of them.  When I get those special pictures that I want on my walls it is sometimes hard to come up with just the right way to display them. Then I came across Pottery Barn’s site on creating a memory wall and got all kinds of great ideas and wanted to share…

The family of these kiddos will be moving into a new home very soon and wanted some fun new pictures to adorn their walls.  We had fun roaming downtown Gretna and then playing in the wonderful branches of a friend’s weeping willow tree.  Here are a few from our morning…

Met up with these girls over the weekend for their session.  I know them from soccer, school and church so we had a lot to talk about as we wandered around taking pictures.  I enjoyed them very much…they were completely comfortable in front of my camera, like it wasn’t even there. I love it when that happens.  :)

being true to you…

Today I was checking out Erin Vey’s blog post as I often do.  I love the wonderful quotes that she finds to share.  Today’s seemed to hit home for me and I wanted to share it here as well.

“The hardest battle in life, is to be nobody but yourself, in a world that is working night and day to make you like everybody else.”

-E.E Cummings

A new picture to share of Ben and Samuel.  I love that when I ask them to sit together for a picture they instantly put their arms around each other, like it’s the most natural thing in the world.  The older one is so protective of his brothers, when I saw this picture that is the thought that came to mind.

Enjoy your Thursday…
