Meet Alison

For me, art and photography have been my lifelong loves.  It started with pencils and markers at my Grandma's desk,  filling notebook after notebook with drawings.  From there it moved on to watercolor, acrylics and taking every art class my high school counselor would let me.

I got my first camera for Christmas in sixth grade.  I took pictures of mountains on our vacations, flowers, my brother....you name it.  I loved capturing the moments, the colors and the light.

As I got older I would pour over art and photography books.  At first admiring others work and then later studying their techniques so that I could create the visions bursting in my head.

Fast forward to 2005 and starting my own photography business. I am now blessed to be putting my love for art and photography into creating memorable portraits for my clients and their families.  My style is simple, no fuss, no props.  Only great locations and natural light, capturing my subjects in creative, memorable portraits.

3 things thursday

So glad that it is finally Thursday!

1.  I didn’t watch Hope for Haiti, but this past week I was shopping around iTunes and came across this song and then found the video footage on YouTube.  As many of you know I have a total weakness for acoustic guitar…

2.  Over the past few months I have been collecting different quotes that catch my eye.  I have a folder in my email and it is now quite full.  So here is one that I saw last week on iheart quotes that seemed to fall in my lap at just the right time.

“never compare yourself to anyone;  you are only comparing your worst to their best.”

Perfect.

3. Finally, my favorite picture of the week.  Teaching Henry how to make the ‘fish face’…I think he’s got it down.  ;)

have a great weekend!

3 things Thursday

So I am going to try a little something new on Thursdays, doing posts about 3 things I just want to share.  It’ll be personal, business, music…really anything that just happens to catch my eye during the week.  Here goes…

1.  If you’ve visited here before you know that I am a follower of Kal Barteski’s blog.  She is a canadian artist that wonderfully creative.  Her daily blogs about life with her  ’girl tribe’ (2 young daughters) make even the most mundane tasks worth reading about.  Check out her new Valentine’s Day designs and her newest painting collection, ‘I Found Wings’ that she had a show for in December.  I have a couple of her prints and her book.  Incredibly talented lady with both her paint brush and words.

2.  For those of you that are on Facebook come join my page!  Click on this link or search on Facebook, alison bickel Photography.

3.  And finally, because I know if you are living in Nebraska you’ve had just about enough of this gray, dreary, snowy, foggy…well you get the idea.  So to combat this how about a little California sunshine?  :)  Check out one of my FAVORITE photographers, Tara Whitney, of southern California and her ‘just be blogged’ blog.    Wonderful, sunny images that will make you feel better just looking at them.  She truly has a talent for capturing families.

Well, that’s it for this weeks 3 things Thursday.  Hope you enjoy the sites!  As always I cannot post without a picture so here we go…

This boy of mine got braces yesterday.  He was so excited, it was really pretty cute.  Looking at him yesterday I thought, wow, I am officially a mom of a BIG boy <sigh>.  I am not so patiently awaiting the arrival of a new lens and am looking forward to taking some shots of his new smile, braces and all.

til next time…

sunshine

It’s been gloomy around here…to say the least.  With almost 2 feet of snow on the ground and a change in temperature it has created a cover of fog that has been hanging around for days.  At first, I’ll admit, it was pretty with all the ice crystals on the trees.  Now those are gone and everything is just gray…and foggy.

So I thought for today I’d post a little bit of sunshine.  A picture of one of the sunflowers that Samuel and I grew from seeds this summer.  We’ve already started talking about our garden for this year and he is excited to plant them again.

Heading out for a grocery trip after the gym this morning.  Thinking maybe I need to pick up some flowers while I’m there.  A little color around here might be just what is needed…

On another note, I know I said that I wasn’t much into resolutions.  However, when I came across this quote from Elizabeth Leighton on Deb Schweldhem’s facebook page it changed my mind a little.

This year, I will be my own photographer….my own person. My own artist. I will not be a follower and will not follow the trends that will go out of season in a year. I don’t have to purchase the latest ‘gizmo’ to be succesful. I will believe in myself and my own talent. This is one of my resolutions.”

Pretty good huh?

Well, off to start the day.  Here’s hoping you can find a little sunshine somewhere in yours!
